Bathroom Remodels in Tempe & Maricopa County
Full bathroom remodels across Tempe and Maricopa County — custom tile showers, frameless glass enclosures, new vanities, plumbing relocations, and complete gut renovations from a licensed Arizona contractor.
Tired of These Frustrations?
If any of this sounds familiar, you are in the right place.
Uncertain Quality
Big-box stores and online options make it hard to know if a floor will actually look good and last in your home.
We bring real samples to your home so you choose in your own lighting.
Weeks-Long Timelines
Other contractors string flooring projects out for weeks while your home stays in chaos.
Most installations completed in 3 days, scheduled within a week of signing.
Contractor Horror Stories
Missed deadlines, hidden fees, and sloppy work plague the flooring industry.
Licensed (ROC #336899 & #349964), bonded, and we communicate at every step.
Zona Floors handles full bathroom renovations across Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale, Gilbert, and the rest of Maricopa County. Custom tile showers built waterproof from the slab up. New vanities, plumbing relocations, electrical updates, lighting design, and layout changes — all coordinated by one team, on one schedule, with transparent itemized pricing.
If you’re only updating fixtures and finishes without changing layout or plumbing, our outdated bathroom upgrade service is the right starting point. If you only need new bathroom floors, our bathroom flooring service covers that scope. This page is about full remodels — tear out to final fixtures.
What a Full Bathroom Remodel Covers
A full bathroom remodel from Zona Floors typically includes:
- Complete demolition of existing fixtures, finishes, flooring, and any failed waterproofing
- Framing changes if the layout needs to change — bumping a wall, building a bench, framing a curbless shower
- Plumbing relocations for new shower locations, repositioned vanities, freestanding tubs, or added water lines
- Electrical updates including new circuits for heated floors, lighting, exhaust fans, and outlets to current code
- Custom tile shower construction — sloped mortar pan, waterproofing membrane, tile, niche framing and waterproofing, bench, glass enclosure
- Vanity and countertop installation — single or double vanity, quartz or natural stone counter, sinks, faucets, mirror, lighting
- Flooring installation — porcelain tile, natural stone, or waterproof LVP appropriate to the room
- Lighting and fixture finish — vanity lights, recessed cans, sconces, exhaust fan, plumbing fixtures
- Final trim work — baseboards, door casings, transitions, paint touch-ups
- Punch list and cleanup — full walk-through, debris removal, deep clean
We don’t do half-measures on full remodels. If the bones underneath have issues — failed waterproofing, slow leaks, settled subfloor, old galvanized plumbing — we fix the bones too. Leaving problems in the walls just guarantees you remodel again in five years.
Our Bathroom Remodel Process
1. Free In-Home Consultation
We meet at your home, walk through the existing bathroom, and listen to what you want changed. We bring physical samples of tile, countertop materials, and fixture finishes so you can see real options in your actual lighting. By the end of the meeting, you have a realistic budget range and a clear sense of what’s possible in your space.
2. Design & Detailed Written Estimate
Once you decide to move forward, we finalize layout decisions, material selections, and fixture specifications. You receive a detailed written estimate itemizing every line — demolition, framing, plumbing, electrical, waterproofing, tile and grout, vanity and countertop, fixtures, glass enclosure, and finish work. No bundled “labor” line that hides the actual scope.
3. Demolition & Rough-In
Demo day starts with everything coming out — tile, fixtures, vanity, old flooring, and any failed waterproofing. With the room down to studs and slab where needed, we tackle the hidden work: plumbing relocations, new water and drain lines, electrical updates, framing changes, and exhaust fan rough-ins. This is when we verify the subfloor is sound and address anything we couldn’t see before demo. Inspections happen before anything closes back up.
4. Waterproofing & Tile Setting
The shower gets a properly sloped mortar bed, a continuous waterproofing membrane (Schluter Kerdi or equivalent for most builds), and a sealed drain assembly. Niches get framed, waterproofed, and tested before tile goes anywhere. Tile installation follows manufacturer specifications for thinset coverage, joint width, and pattern layout. Grout cures, then gets sealed (epoxy grout in showers and high-stain areas; sealed cement grout elsewhere).
For the deep technical version of this stage, see our custom tile shower installation process guide.
5. Vanity, Fixtures, Glass
Cabinetry comes in, gets leveled and secured, and the countertop installs over it. Sinks drop in, faucets connect, mirrors mount, and lighting finishes. The shower glass measurement happens after tile is complete — we use the actual finished opening, not the drawings. Custom glass usually takes 7 to 14 days to fabricate; we schedule it so installation lands at the right point in the timeline.
6. Punch List & Final Walk-Through
We walk the finished bathroom with you and capture any punch list items. Most get addressed same-day or within the next visit. The crew hauls all debris off-site, deep-cleans the work area, and hands off care instructions for the tile, grout, and natural stone surfaces. Final invoice is delivered with warranty documentation.
Major Decisions You’ll Make
A bathroom remodel has more decision points than most homeowners expect. The ones that matter most for budget and outcome:
Layout changes. Keeping the existing layout is the cheapest path. Moving the toilet, relocating the shower, or expanding into an adjacent closet adds plumbing, electrical, and framing scope. Worth it sometimes, expensive often.
Shower configuration. Standard curbed walk-in with a single shower head is the budget-friendly default. Curbless walk-in, double rain heads with body sprays, custom benches, large niches, and frameless glass enclosures each add cost and time but transform the daily experience.
Tub or no tub. Tub-to-shower conversions are popular in master baths where the tub never gets used. Keeping a freestanding soaker tub as a feature is also possible but eats square footage and budget.
Vanity choices. Stock vanity with a quartz top is the affordable path. Custom-built vanities, double-bowl configurations, floating vanities, and natural stone tops scale price up significantly.
Tile selection. Porcelain tile is the most durable, most affordable, and easiest-to-maintain choice. Natural stone (marble, travertine, slate) brings character and luxury but requires sealing and gentler care. Our porcelain vs ceramic tile guide covers tile material choices for Arizona homes.
Floor heating. Electric radiant heat under the tile is a popular upgrade for master baths. It adds wire mat installation, a dedicated thermostat circuit, and electrician time. The added daily comfort is significant.
We help you make these decisions during design. Nothing locks in until the written estimate, so you can compare options against budget impact before committing.
Arizona-Specific Considerations
A few things specific to remodeling bathrooms in this climate:
- Slab moisture and movement. Most Arizona homes sit on concrete slab. Slab humidity affects every flooring and tile decision. We test and document moisture before any product goes down.
- Hard water staining. Phoenix metro water is among the hardest in the country. Grout color, fixture finish, and shower glass choices all change with that in mind — light grout shows hard-water buildup; matte-finish fixtures hide it better than polished chrome.
- Exhaust ventilation. Monsoon humidity loads make proper exhaust fan sizing more important than spec sheets suggest. We upsize bath fans on most remodels.
- Heat stability. Material selections that handle 40°F daily temperature swings — porcelain, LVP, quartz, properly engineered cabinetry — outperform alternatives that move with the climate.
Timeline Expectations
| Project Type | Typical Timeline |
|---|---|
| Guest bath, fixtures and finishes only | 2–3 weeks |
| Guest bath, layout unchanged | 3–4 weeks |
| Master bath, layout unchanged | 3–5 weeks |
| Master bath with plumbing relocations | 5–7 weeks |
| Custom curbless shower with full plumbing rework | 6–8 weeks |
These are realistic timelines including waterproofing cure time, custom glass fabrication, and inspections. They don’t include design or material lead times before demo starts.
When to Choose Full Remodel vs Smaller Scope
| If you… | Choose… |
|---|---|
| Want a complete reset, layout works against you, or systems are dated | Bathroom Remodel (this page) |
| Have a tub you never use and want a walk-in shower | Tub-to-shower conversion (covered in bathroom remodel scope) |
| Want surface updates without changing layout or plumbing | Outdated Bathroom Upgrade |
| Only need new flooring in the bathroom | Bathroom Flooring |

Why Choose Zona Floors
Built Waterproof, Not Just Water-Resistant
Every custom shower we build uses a proper waterproofing membrane (Schluter Kerdi or equivalent), not just water-resistant backer board. The difference shows up 5 years in.
Coordinated Trades, One Point of Contact
You don't call three different contractors. Plumbing, electrical, tile, and finish work all run through our project lead — one call, one schedule, one invoice.
Realistic Timelines, Not Sales Promises
Most full bathroom remodels take 3 to 5 weeks from demo to punch list. We tell you that up front instead of promising a 7-day miracle and disappearing for a month.
